Pedorthists are helpful!
Yes, pedorthists are very helpful to people with foot pain and, yet, are not well known. Many, many people have never heard of a pedorthist. Many medical professionals recognize the importance of adding certified pedorthists to their foot health teams. Certified pedorthists are trained to select proper footwear for specific foot conditions of all types. They ensure that prescriptions from the medical community perform for the patient according to the doctor's intentions. The pedorthist works under the basic understanding that the shape of the shoe must conform to the shape of the foot(do not shape your foot with the shoe). The foot and shoe should work together to reduce or eliminate irritation to the foot and to improve shoe function. A certified pedorthist carries the qualification to ensure the shoes conform to the feet. If you have foot pain, a pedorthist can help. The pedorthist will also refer medical condtions to the appropriate medical professional.

What is a pedorthist?
A pedorthist is one who accommodates the foot. The pedorthist is concerned with the shoe from two perspectives: the shoe as an aid to healing which allows the client to move about more easily, and the shoe as the one item that makes it possible for the client to wear a lower extremity orthosis. A pedorthist, after proper study and testing, can become certified.
